No offense, but one would have to be extremely naive to believe that a treaty would actually prevent a super power from developing weapons in secret.

This simply means that the US is considering using the weapons, which is to say publicly acknowledging their existence.

The deals made with the Russians managed to last for a few decades, and no more. America was the first to start breaking them, and in doing so they lost the Russian's trust. Now Russia looks at America as as nation that cannot uphold deals - and there may be truth in that. It was not the current American administration that broke the deals, they were already broken by the time Trump got to office. Trump is merely formalizing it. - like moving the embassy to Jerusalem.

Now the Pentagon says a new arms race is underway. I remember the last one. There is very little difference between then and now, or for years between for that matter. The US and Russia, and now China, have all been militarizing space. China officially does not acknowledge its real missile inventory. Russia has new weapons, and America does too. Nothing has changed.

The human race can still end all life here in an instant if a mistake is made, or a psychopath gets control.

Nothing has changed.
