When I was in 5th grade going to a public school in the PWN about 30 years ago we had a introduction to the DARE program. The city police department assigned a sgt. to my class he drove a very cool corvette confiscated from a drug raid (to get kids to see how crime doesn't pay?). Sgt had the kids take a survey yes or no answers with questions like do you parent do drugs. I was told it was anonymous so I answered yes to the question do your parent do drugs. later that day a few kids were taken to a separate room to be questioned further, they asked me what kind of drugs my mom does and I was smart enough to know that she could get in trouble but also I was angry enough to not care so I compromised and told them she takes pills, "you know from the doctor". but I remember writing down the word pot although they never pressed me to say the word pot.

A few week later my mother was arrested for domestic violence for pushing my father, she was arrested by my DARE officer. I am wondering what are the chances he happened to be the responding office for incident. I was recently asked why I don't trust the government and I told a friend this story. It didn't occur to me until about 20 years later this may not be a coincidence and I think the DARE program was basically a snitch on your parent program. Feels extra intrusive and creepy. Just curious if anyone else has any memories about this program and is it still a thing
