I was suspicious of FarmVille when it first came out in, what, 2006 or so. Wasn’t sure the end goal, but knew there wasn’t an altruistic reason for developing a free game built into Facebook. Suspected it had something to do with analyzing decision-making and socializing. Still not sure, but needless to say there was a plan behind it. This story confirms my suspicion. Heads up to parents whose kids are on roblox, fortnite, etc.

Facebook makes money from user info. They get info when you use their site. Farmville was an addictive way to get users to return to the site at regular intervals. The more you are on the site, the more likely you are too do other things while you are there. It's not that complicated.
