Better yet, publish your ideas. Then if somebody tries to make money off it, you can claim copyright infringement. If somebody tries to patent your idea, you can sue them for the profits.

I used to think this way; it's not correct. This line of thought is for the paranoid.

Making an idea happen is worth way more than the original idea.

Earliest example I can think of for this are Leonardo's many inventions which were never created in his time.

I don't doubt ideas for things can be stolen and used by others. Some people probably actually make a hobby or career out of it. I think the idea that it's a very large and vague thing is what makes it paranoid.

Fortunately for me, I'm a naturally private person, so even people I've known for months and years don't tend to hear many of my ideas.
