From an overland trading perspective, this map has some truth. The trade routes between the 3 continents run through Israel. That's why it's such a valued piece of land.

That may be true, but the fact it's specifically Jerusalem, and not even all of Israel/Palestine or that region as a whole is what makes it creepy. It's probably just as likely to be based in Christianity as some sort of Jewish conspiracy. I've seen this map before and it's what came to my mind first at the time.

Wiki : drawn by the German Protestant pastor, theologist, and cartographer Heinrich Bünting. The map was published in his book Itinerarium Sacrae Scripturae (Travel through Holy Scripture) in 1581.
