The books of Graham Hancock date the construction of the Sphinx and the Giza Pyramids to the same time as the petroglyths: 10,000 BCE. But instead of the dawning of civilization, as the article suggests, Hancock tells us that there was a rebirth of earlier civilizations at the end of the last ice age, also 10,000 BCE. Hancock and Egyptologists do not agree on these dates.

There's a theory that something happened in the sky that the whole world witnessed about 13,000 years ago and then each civilization depicted the celestial event the best they could. Many of the images strongly resemble phases of plasma discharge that can be recreated in the lab and are completely scalable. This lends to the theory that what people witnessed was an immense plasma event within our solar system.
