Were you awake while it was happening? The amount of shills coming out of the woodwork to say "I know it's real I'm friends with one of the parents" was almost as eye opening as the event itself

No. What I remember clearly was comments saying things like:

The kid's Christmas presents lying underneath the tree, they won't be opened... I didn't connect till I thought about that, it makes it so real when you think about that! This is so unbelievably sad!

Promoting imagery, emotional reaction. I don't think those were organic. A committee came up with that imagery and they had shills promote it.
