I'm repeating myself but there is a push to bring everyone into the cities. A quick look at the red and blue presidential election map of the US and you will see why.

The Left Coast of the U.S. has been testing this. Personally I think it’s a huge invasion of privacy not to mention how dispicable the tax is in the first place.

I thought the gas tax was already a tax based on how many miles you drive. Sounds like double-dipping and an excuse to get real-time surveillance on every citizens location.

I've heard lots of talk about charging usage fees for roads by the amount of distance driven, but it was always done by reporting your car's mileage on your annual registration and paying the appropriate amount of tax, not by giving the government a GPS on every single vehicle. That's ridiculous and totally unnecessary for their stated purpose.
