It depends on your skin colour and accent. Canada likes to pride itself on being so multicultural and not racist, but if you are white and speak English well without an accent or with an accent from a 'traditional' English-speaking country, you won't face the same kind of serfdom as someone who is not white, or for whom English is a second language. Canada pretends its not racist, but there is definitely a social preference for white, English-speaking immigrants. The immigration system, on the other hand, is a bitch to everyone. It's a bitch to everyone because in order to keep out the brown people that Canada won't admit it doesn't want, it has to make entrance requirements nearly impossible to obtain for everyone.

hels

I just hope you aren't voting for the liberals. Trudeau is a face and nothing else. I'll be voting green as I normally vote liberals.

Kabuthunk

And Canada hasn't yet, so I will continue to assume they're lying to me until they put up or shut up.

gosso920

Voaters hate him!

wikchi

Meanwhile Australia rolls over and takes it up the ass like a good little prison bitch, i mean prism country.

COUSCOUS

They will never back out, America and Israel own the Canadian Govt.

Voxxe

This would be nice...

jervybingly

Good on you Canada.

downvotesattractor

I'm waiting for VOAT to support tagging. I want to tag OP as a clickbait whore

Biskers

Please oh please let Canada be out. It scares me reading people's reactions on Facebook to the few articles I've actually seen about TPP and Canada possibly being out... I've seen people claiming not being part of the TPP as the reason our economy will collapse. I've tried to spread awareness of just how nefarious it is, only to be ridiculed and asked about my tin foil hat... sigh.

shmegegy

US is under state of emergency and implemented COG in 2001.. not like you have any representation at all. IDK why you guys pay federak taxes?

bloodywellright

Those of us who actually know about it anyway.

shmegegy

If conservatives win the election, you can have my citizenship..

floormatt3

goNDP

DthaV

I would up vote this more often if I could.

g-j-a

Good for them. That's showing backbone. Maybe we in the US will get lucky and follow suit.

Won't hold my breath though, since so many fuckface politicians here seem to be poised to benefit from its' passing.

coconuts

Read about his policies

Please suggest some of this material.

MrHarryReems

Dunno.. Obama has a massive boner for the TPP.

A_Scanner_Darkly

2016 is election year. Even if they don't want it politicians might go against it if enough of the population speaks out against it.

MrHarryReems

I simply don't have that much faith in them. I think that they are so completely bought and paid for these days that they simply don't care what the public wants.

A_Scanner_Darkly

They don't care what the public wants. However they need to make the public think they do in order to get votes. Elections are right around the corner so there isn't enough time for people to forget something like this. Lots of people don't even know about the TPP, TTIP, and TiSA. So more people need to get told about this so they can make a difference in the elections.

eatsglue

YES! I don't care if Harper is delaying this for the sake of votes -- if the Conservatives lose in October, the NDP will (hopefully) scrap this deal entirely.

JTMTL

I really hope this happens.

FatFreddyFreekowtski

GOOD.

coconuts

Is this clickbait? "Canada claims...." The only relevant quote I see is

Canada’s Trade Minister Ed Fast dismisses these challenges from Washington, telling The Globe and Mail last week that “the Americans prefer to negotiate this agreement through the media” and he won’t.

This looks like a media piece that is used for political posturing.

oddmon

Thank God someone's showing some sense.

If we could only put a stake thru its heart here in the US....

llGoD

You are welcome

IveSeenYouNakid

It will just get what it needs through the US.

sweetholymosiah

"Ever since Canada formally announced its entry into the TPP, the focus has been on how much our neighbors to the north could hold back from the bargaining table."
At what point has the TPP been formally announced? For a long time it was a complete secret that these negotiations were ongoing. If it weren't for the leaks, the citizens of these democratic nations would know shit all about the TPP. Let me know when Harper stands up and reads any part of this trade deal in Parliament.
And yes, by the way we have an election coming up so the Conservatives will say just about anything to have your vote. Check back after the election and you might have some real information.

X____sign_here____

I really hope this happens.

Reed_Solomon

And votes. It's an election year.

wuzizname

Promises aside, us actually backing out would surprise me. Harper has the biggest moose sized hard-on for selling oil, lumber, and potash to China - and if Harper doesn't get re-elected the next will find it difficult to resist getting that same hard-on.

Lag-wagon

Well you may have linked why he will say no. The tpp cuts out trade with China and Russia.

Voxxe

One of the reasons for the TTP is the containment of China's rise after-all.

Wolfgang617

Well after we asked them to join and they said no. The anti china rhetoric is only recently going on.

Sciency

"Canada, fuck yeah "

You know when the USA's hat starts to lead by example..

Reed_Solomon

we've kind of always lead by example. only not lately since koch money has been propping up the conservative party here.

Womb_Raider

Seriously? The Koch brothers are expanding north? They're like a god damn cartel.

Reed_Solomon

They find ways

Sciency

Yeah, it has turned into a game of lesser evils...
