Next thing, Assange is on Dutch tv making veiled insinuations about Seth Rich being a source. Turns out this is totally false. The Russians were the hackers, as all the evidence is plain to see for anyone willing to look. But why would Assange say that if it wasn't true. After all, he's the reliable guy, right? Well, if your mom is threatened with murder, most people, Assange included, will say whatever you tell them.

TL;DR: Assange is compromised by Russian GRU by virtue of threatening to kill his mother.
