Think deeper. Details are obscured in this story, and some of the guys were scapegoats for the true villains. The subterfuge goes several level deep.

1 - Iran was supplying arms to kill US soldiers. 2 - There were Mossad double agent mercenaries active in the area. This goes deep and Iran has an excellent spy network. 3 - Mossad had a vested interest in keeping us in the ME. Anyone remember Juba the Sniper? There were videos released on the internet of U.S soldiers being shot by a sniper in Iraq and these videos was attributed to the so called 'Juba the Sniper', all these videos were most likely footage of various Mossad agents shooting U.S soldiers then releasing them to the internet and attributing it to the made up 'Juba the Sniper' to blame it on the muslims, to not only fuel more hatred of U.S soldiers towards Iraqis but to also boost the morale of Iraqi militias to resist the U.S even more, fueling the conflict even further.
