To be fair I think people miss part of the story about McCain's time as a POW. He's not a hero because he was captured, he was a hero because he suffered prolonged torture so that other soldiers could be released before him. He did this voluntarily and I'm pretty sure that heroism.

The article has a point though. Soldiers get this big status boost in our culture despite the fact they may have never served any tours of duty. While there are exceptions my experience is that most people that I know who enlisted did so because they weren't smart enough for college. None of them ever left US soil so they don't exactly deserve the heroic status.

You should look into it more. It's pretty well documented. He was a big capture for the north Vietnamese because of who his father was. I have never seen any evidence to support anything different

I can see your point but it makes more sense to me to accept supporting evidence I have. It's just as likely there is no evidence because it does not exists. I'm open to things but you have to support it with something.

I hate it when people call me a hero just because I'm in the military. I haven't done anything heroic. I go to work every day. I've deployed. I do what I'm paid to do and VOLUNTEERED to do. While I don't think there is anything wrong with Trump saying he's not a hero, him saying the snide remark after was pretty insulting to others that don't deserve that.
