I think the rest of the world knows that America didn't go to the moon. It just shows how well the media, and the education system work to keep Americans brainwashed.

For your entertainment, Rammstein, Amerika

Back when Epcot Center first opened, they told visitors that the food had beneficial minerals or some other crap in it from being grown in lunar soil that was brought back. You would think they would want some more soil for that by now...

Impuredeath

It always surprised me that we as humans put so much money into military and destruction of other humans, and we spend only a fraction on space exploration. And most the space exploration sciences were developed for military purposes in the first place.

I don't think we will ever get anything done in space unless there is a commercially good reason for it. Like lets say its suddenly allowed to go mine in space, I am sure you'll see a giant surge in space mining and other attempts to gather material from space.

chiatar

Thanks - this was fascinating.

What really struck me was the lack of burn marks and disturbed lunar surface from the retro-rocket on the lander.... never thought about it before, but now it seems conspicuously absent

Zinnsee

Yes, as I recall even NASA themselves were afraid that there was a possibility the lander could topple into the crater created by the blast during landing.

But on the official pictures it appears that not even the slightest disturbance took place. Very strange to say the least.

Rampant apathy by an American populace more enamored with whores like the Kardashian family, Monday Night Football, and racial shit-stirring than furtherment of science, knowledge, and "local" shakedown of tools and techniques (moonbase) that will be necessary to take us beyond our finite little world. We are miserable, narcissistic, whiny little dysfunctional miscreants that would rather look for something to be offended by than look for ways to better humanity. We're riddled with faux-intellectuals that blather on with their heads up their asses disputing and denying scientific groundwork and accomplishment that's gone before us. They're no better than jackasses like Ted Cruz and the climate-change deniers. We haven't gone back because the best years of our miserable race are behind us and we're idiots raising idiot children where every child gets a star and excellence and success are offensive to the little snowflakes that tried so hard but just can't get it because society failed them.

That's why we haven't gone back and why Gene Cernan will unfortunately hold his distinction for many lifetimes yet to come.

gabeh73

so why go the 8 different times with appollo? was that 8th trip super interesting?

gabeh73

the real question should be ...why hasn't any human successfully left low earth orbit since 1972? It was real important in the 60's to leave low earth orbit 7 times, but since then all countries have done cost benefit and decided it is just far too costly...with far too little benefit? what countries are capable now of sending humans safely beyond low earth orbit and returning?

gabeh73

just as likely that Napolean Bonaparte and his troops where also luanching into space and hanging around in low earth orbit as the low tech machines of the 1960's.

gabeh73

It is 180,000 miles to the moon. We STILL blow our ships up a significant % of the time when we just go into orbit around earth 190 miles from surface and try to return safely. Now add in the complication of landing safely on the moon hitting a rendevous in moon orbit and traveling back 190,000 miles again. There is a very low probability of success. China or Russia would have done it to show how awesome they are if they could...but instead everyone has to admit...1960's Americans had better technology than China or Russia in 2020....this is lie....so ya...we never went. We could do it unmanned...but not manned with return safely.

k_digi

I gotta admit that sounds more believable than "because we lost interest" even if we did go, I'm just saying I understand why people are confused, because the retarded "oh we did that already" BS is just not cutting it.

gabeh73

and obviously I don't know....just looking at what is most probable. The main argument I hear from people is "ya but Russia would have pointed it out if the US was faking it....these two countries were cut throat enemies". I used to believe that....but upon studying the Bolshevik revolution. "Wall Street and the Bolshevik revolution" is a interesting book...reading about the Rockefellers standard oil strategies and the ongoing infighting between the old russian empire and the European royalty. The relationships between the Western banking elite and Lenin and Stalin and even the support for international communism from the likes of David Rockefeller....it is clear that USSR was just another useful enemy. The dialectic of was used by the elite to control, tax and militarize the masses of the East and West.

That is why you can read many instances of concern from the elite after the Berlin Wall fell and they had to try and create new enemies to justify the totalitarian vision of our controllers.

k_digi

Well if that's the "best" explanation it also gets the :

Darwin award for excellence in the field of explanations.

It's about the most retarded thing I've ever heard, did a 'scientist' actually say it ?

I.e do you have a link ?

Sarcasticus

Because we obviously never went there in the first place?

k_digi

Or did we go but as a result of that made discoveries that caused us to be unable or (more accurately) caused our very centralized "departments" to be unable to go back?

badp4nd4

No real reason to send humans back to the moon when we can send robots. Right now it seems confirming water on the moon is the next step, if there is plenty of water, humans may go back.

Challenges of a moon base are pretty daunting, but if we find plentiful water we can use the hydrogen in the water for fuel to get back to earth. So that's really the first hurdle, no water, too expensive to go back and forth.

k_digi

I'm rolling with Finnthehuman's answer it makes sense. I don't trust the FDA re poisoning food or any other "department" why would I trust NASA , what makes me curious though is NO humans have been back...

CatManDew

Japan is planning on both a human and robotic mission to the moon, planned for 2018. Japanese Lunar Exploration Program.

Edit: I will agree though, it is odd that no other manned missions have been sent to the moon.

gabeh73

ya because they can't do it yet. They lied when they said they could do it safely 7 different round trips with Apollo

CatManDew

So how do you explain the Lunar Laser Ranging experiment? (Serious question)

FinnTheHuman

Because, for some reason, people conveniently forget that NASA is an agency of the U.S. Federal Government and operates as such. People take the word of government like the word of God, or any authority really, and just don't ask questions.
