The CIA had a device that could read the electromagnetic off the old style CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) which would duplicate on a remote monitor what CRT watcher was seeing. They could get approx a 2 block distance depending on what was blocked (walls, other devices radiation etc). but it would read through walls.
