So I doubted this at first. James May says it's the plate that came with the car. The problem is, I have so little trust wrt the BBC and the UK Government, I wanted more context.

As soon as I saw the James Bond reference and the Esprit, then the fact that Jeremy Clarkson was in the 928, I decided it was an intentional reference.

They didn't realize how provocative it would be, they were trying to make good TV, then simply used their considerably corrupt power structure to erase the bad optics. (Changing the DMV records and paying off the previous owner, who probably died of old age anyway)

The UK has a history of following our lead. They will probably have a revolution now that the Americans will be joining the Yellow Vests over the Epstein findings.

If someone wants more context, the characters and the cars are being used in a theatrical manner. If James May is playing a Bond character in a British car, that implies a certain Modus Operandi.

If Jeremy Clarkson, known to be brutish, is driving a 928 through Argentina, the Falklands jab would be apropos for that theatrical character.

See the 928 was the only V8 Porsche to date, massive torque but also a very German sensibility. The type of roadster you would use to tour the lands of your vanquished enemy.

I'm not saying James May or the others were in on it, I'm just saying that from a cost analysis perspective, the BBC could afford to lie.
