Younger people probably have never heard about the movie They Live. They probably know only The Matrix as the ultimate movie allegory about conspiracy. They Live is not only better, it's perfect. What we have is not a superhero, but a real human who has to hide because of discovering the conspiracy, since the whole system belongs to the conspirators. This is a real depiction of what happens to the people who get to know the truth and can't function in society anymore.

The Matrix diffuses the message too much into the esoteric. This gen of movie goers might enjoy more the apparent amateurish style of the movie than the philosophy exposed in The Matrix. Also is more on point, no distractions from the main message, which is to wake up to the reality of how you are being steered into an xyz direction.

It was intended to be a documentary about how we're enslaved by capitalism. The aliens represent the alienation man experiences in capitalism. But it turns out the people at the top are so distant from those they control that they have become aliens.
