Not sure if it affects the argument one way or the other, but the Smurfs were originally all male. Smurfette is essentially a golem. Gargamel made her out of clay and used magic to give her life, in order to sow discord among the smurfs.

Actually if you want the MORE weird part is that children have so-called "imaginary" friends, which are entities that grown ups learn to not see. These entities are "negative-light" meaning they eat light and destroy it. One of the ways they do this is through their eyes which are huge and dark, and suck the light out of... life.

Cartoons with their huge black pupils, are there to show children how "harmless" these monsters are. And they are NOT . These monsters, now legitimized by the image box, go on to take over these children's lives.
