This is way beyond plausible. It turns out that Luxottica is buying all the brands of glasses and sunglasses. This is fucking crazy. There is no more competition in glasses and sunglasses market.

I used to be an optician working for them, as well as a private optometrist after that. It's the biggest scam, the markup is ridiculous. I use zenni optical now when I need new glasses, it's cheaper than my vision insurance for glasses. When you get your exam done, ask the dr to write your PDs on the prescription sheet, because they're difficult to measure yourself and you'll need to know that to order glasses online. Zenni does a good job of making the rest of the process easy. I'm sure there are other sites that are as good or better in some ways, but zenni is the only one I've used and recommend.
