1 Shining - Both parents were supposed to become crazy.

This assumes that you have an honest narrator. I know people have posted theories on here that she is the crazy one, but I can't quiet recall the details.

One thing he got exactly right in the intro to 2001. Nigs gonna nog over a bone.

I'm guessing but in Eyes Wide Shut, the execs and Kidman's agent probably objected to the negative optic it would have given both women and Nicole. Like I say, that's a guess.

Another guess on 2001: All kinds of psychology is utilied in Hollywood. Including a woman may have presented a dynamic unwanted by Kubrik for effect. That effect being that a female's presence would give it a more 'homey' feel, more akin to Earth...not the same tension....and otherworldly remoteness...lonely in other words.....One might surmise a female voice for the computer like Siri....but that again would have less of a threatening timbre that had to be establish in an electrified monotonic voice.

Also the audience would have anticipated a romantic sideplot that would have actually distracted from the main conflict. They need to get back home to the wives and girlfriends and that adds a dimension. Today, the director would cast a dweeb younger actor with Sandra Bullock in space or some such and we'd have had "Speed In Space", a horrible movie.

For this same reason, Sigourney Weaver isn't a sexpot in Alien.

As for the others.....artistic liberty...I'm sure he had his reasons.

Every book suffers this way in the hands of Hollywood.

But reading and movies have different audiences and different dynamics.

My two cents.

It's okay to totally disagree.

1 - More contrast when only one is.

2- They weren't going out to colonize.

3- prob screw up KUBRICK’S CODE.

Conspirologist

WTF are you talking about?

drakesdoom2

2001 was just there prologue anyway. That isn't even the main movie.

Conspirologist

I have no idea what you're talking about.

drakesdoom2

2001 is based on a book. It's in a series of books and not the climax.

Conspirologist

The book was written by an infamous pederast. Do you realize that the child being born at the end has no meaning without the female astronaut?

drakesdoom2

The whole fucking movie has no point without the other two.

Conspirologist

Care to elaborate?

drakesdoom2

No I don't, go read the books.
