if a smart phone makes your child a mindless zombie then you have weak genes or terrible teaching skills.

they are going to get one later in life. they will have to face these evil dangers at some point. all you are doing is denying their ability to learn how to defend and control these tools.

its the same thing with "chores." my mother never made me do chores. one day my room had bugs in it. it was gross. i learned to never let food be out and to keep shit clean. i kept my room nice and clean forever more after that. i repeat, i never had chores. a chore is something that you have to do that you dont understand why you have to do it.

face it, the future is going to have a lot of tech in it. its best to prepare your child how to fight their urges even in the face of a mountain of cocaine then to hide them from reality and send them waltzing into the lion's den once they hit 18 and you kick them out of your house.

That’s why I only give them half of a gram!

Saves money too!

As someone who used to do coke, I have to call bullshit.

Then you've never had a teenager who was allowed their own device at a young age. Brain transforming, absolutely addicting, life stifling. Adults and teens alike but especially for teens whose brains are still developing. Not like cocaine at all, probably far worse in the long term development of their adult mind, perception of reality. It's talmudvision 2.0, cranked up to 11.

Don't ever give you kid anything other than a flip phone when they're like 12. If they want a smart phone they can get a job and pay for it, those things are a mistake.

TwistedSista

Don't even let them get a job and pay for it. Get a family computer or laptop and let them use it for a controlled amount of time unless it's homework and keep it in the kitchen or family room, never alone in the bedroom. Made the mistake with my oldest and watched it transform them, never again. They will respect you for it later.

philmchawk

Disagree, don't control their money when they have their own job. Agree with the rest though.

TwistedSista

And if they want to buy cocaine? lol. Smartphone in a young teen's hands is talmudvision 2.0. Children naturally should be directed and guided by their parents in this obscene world.

philmchawk

The kid would be 16 by the time this happen first off (which by then they would at least understand why you never let them get a smart phone). Second off if you control every aspect of their life they will never learn to control themselves. I'm sure you have heard/seen the nightmare that is children of helicopter parents. Gotta give enough rope they can hurt themselves but not hang themselves.

Eualos

I wish someone would give me a gram of cocaine
