What you're talking about is not a relief valve, it is a moral guide to follow. It is more of a pacifier than a relief valve, which, as the name implies, occurs when someone "blows off steam." Moral movies that depict wholesome family life and good behavior rewarded, or the evil criminals punished, are a guide that remind us of the world we should be striving to achieve and maintain. That's what the original Star Trek was all about -- it depicted a moral, sane, prosperous future of co-operation and progress. A "relief valve" would be something showing riots or torture porn.
