My dad was a ham radio operator in WW2 and as a civilian after the war until his death. The only reason you would shut down the ham frequencies is to prevent news from being sent to others when mainstream news sources are out. Ham operators have been a critical resource during widespread emergencies. So - trying to control the narrative of nefarious actions yet to come? That's my guess.

Simonsaysgoat

Seems like they have learned from the Vegas shooting.

AlternateSelection

Wtf are they trying to do?

Caliope

In Re the "Ham radio Repeater Shutdown" -- there is a lot of hyperbole and inaccurate information in these posts to Voat. The issue with Amateur Radio Service (ARS) or Ham Radio repeaters is that many of them are co-located with local, state and Federal government owned radio systems. The State of Kalifornication wants the radio site operators to pay for the electricity they consume just as commercial operators (such as cell-phone sites and television re-transmission sites) pay for theirs. Up to now, the State has essentially donated the cost of electricity to those "public service" radio systems. Now that Kalifornication is essentially broke and the kerfluffle over the PG&E electric lines has surfaced, the state is demanding everyone pay the state for electricity costs. Many of the ARS sites are powered by solar panels and battery systems, easy to do since they don't surpass 100 watts in RF output -- most are in the 10 watt range. The Kaliforniacation ARS repeater site operators are, according to the American Radio Relay League (their national organization) taking measures to add solar, wind and alternative power sources to their repeater. I recommend strongly that we, on Voat, cut back on the hysterical "The Sky is Falling" stuff when speaking about ARS Repeaters. As for the rest of the stuff in Kalifornication, they whole shit-heap state can slide into the Pacific Ocean for all I care. As for the rest of the story, as Paul Harvey would have said, I will not be surprised if something is, indeed, up with the power outages. Politicians and (((das juden))) ALWAYS have something up their sleeves when they do stuff like this.

ArmedRevolutionTime

Maybe they are expecting an EMP or solar flare? Wouldn't shutting these systems down mitigate damage? Maybe performing tests sensitive to EM radiation?

Just trying to think outside the box

allahead

I don't think it matters if things are plugged in or not for an EMP. It causes a surge in the device itself and fries anything not shielded.

cthulian_axioms

It matters a little. Things not plugged in require more juice to fry them, but probably would not survive a Carrington Event. Long transmission lines are very, very vulnerable, though.

ORDOTEMPLIINTERNETIS

Largest shutdown of its kind ever. Also no more HAM radio comms and reports of military/emergency uptick... Sounds like something's going on.

This following the same script as the Santa Rosa fires (liquid metal found everywhere, fires avoided HP LASER printing company) Paradise (Where John Hutchison of the Hutchison Effect was thought to live), Malibu (slow first responders), and Montecito Mudflood (Alert @ 3:33am and explosions) etc...

CA: Water. Food. Footwear. Warmth. Valuables. Usefuls. Gas. Security. A Plan.

We will always find eachother in the darkness by our light inside.

ComradeUseless

invasion? you wish lol.

more than likely its either them exerting dominance by doing this due to an internal struggle related to redirection of money or pure mismanagement and poor maintenance due to too much corruption. boring and not so exciting reasons but..

goatboy

Sorry. Indian Tribes and those living on or near Reservations need not comply as this order is a clear violation of both Tribal Sovereignty and Section 106 of the National Environmental Protection Act.

Tablemonster

Looks like it's back to smoke signals eh?

goatboy

Operation Smoke Signal is a go.

Maroonsaint

Ham isn’t even that good I much prefer any other kind of lunch meat

cuzimloony

Isn't everyone turning on their gas/diesel run generators MORE of a fire hazard than keeping the grid on?

allahead

If they really cared about fires, they would have been trimming trees for the last 10 years.

drj2

uproot those fucking australian trees

NotHereForPizza

What could possible be the reason for this?...

allahead

I don't know, but there is no good, logical reason for them to take either of these actions. Maybe they are retarded, maybe malicious. We won't really know anything unless the government does something during this time. They may be planning something in the future and want the relay stations down for later.

black_poop

the repeaters use power and high voltages. the antennas are electric and they could shoot sparks, igniting a fire. the repeater uses electic power like a home, but the repeater probably has its own transformer that gets hot and ignite fires in a remote area. the antenna can start to glow and strike a fire like matches.

TradMan

Bullshit.

NotHereForPizza

and then we'll make sure they can't communicate with radio either

Yeah, it's to stop leaks, promote rioting and to cause unrest/division.

goatsandbros

This is why, I learned from Devon Stack recently, you go with HF HAM.

dirtydyno

80 meters works good local.

Devious1

Ham radio is how they were communicating. Early days of q, one of the Roths associates got a ham radio licence as they knew all the other comms were being monitored.

Looks like this is the fuckin habening...

The1stLantern

Popcorn ready. Maybe China finally arrives to take Commiefornia back into the fold it deserves.

And nothing of value was lost that day.....

I am in Humboldt county. All power is off. I work in IT so we have generators and satellite to communicate with the DC. We all still have wireless data. Water is running. My town is operating generators and pumps to keep the water substations operating (whatever that means). We have gas. I am taking the opportunity to practice my prep. First lesson, I dont keep enough fuel in my house. They say we will turn power back on tomorrow at noon, but it will take until Friday to "energize the lines"

we have a local blog/news called lost coast outpost if you want to see whats happening here.

dayofthehope

At least they haven't turned the internet off, yet.

downton-stabby

Count on them phasing out home generators as well. I'd look for alternate sources of power (off-grid solar for example) to help. If you have any ethanol free fuel stations within reasonable driving distance that fuel lasts much longer than ethanol fuel, and if you leave any in your small equipment it won't damage them.

Jay_Mac

Look for an alternative state to live in.

Sigurdtheold

I know a lot of marinas sell ethanol free fuel.

AshesAshes

The only place I have seen ethanol-free gasoline is in the deep south at particular stations. I've been all over the east and I've only seen it there.

ShowMeYourKitties

They're all over west of Eugene OR

Jay_Mac

If you cannot find ethanol free gas ask local landscapers where they get gas for their mowers. They use non ethanol gas most the time.

downton-stabby

There are ethanol free stations all over the country.

https://www.pure-gas.org/

slwsnowman40

I don't think there's any ethanol free fuel here without going Diesel.

downton-stabby

Check your area and see if anything is within reasonable distance: https://www.pure-gas.org/index.jsp

Not on topic, but you can buy canned ethanol free for small engines at power equipment shops. Good for chainsaws and such.

slwsnowman40

The closest to me is racing fuels, everything else is to far to make it worth the effort (time and distance).

ArcAngel

barrymans or lucas fuel stabilizer will prolong the life of stored fuel in barrels or cans

downton-stabby

It won't fix ethanol. Ethanol absorbs water and isn't negated by stabilizer.

TradMan

Good tip.

OldManCountry

Shutting down all means of communication. Nothing to see here, move on.

Anon331717

Always shut down comms before you launch an attack

waucka

A communications disruption can mean only one thing: invasion.

Gorillion

yarp. literally the only thing to say here.

Anon331717

Usually a precursor yes

ALIENS2222

Ham repeaters... When the hell has that ever started a fire.

51235521

I assume the would run on diesel backup gen for a while. How are law enforcement communicating?

ForgottenMemes

You only need a repeater to talk to someone 100+ miles away.

ALIENS2222

Oh you know the LE equipment will stay up lol... No fire risk there, only the civilian one is a fire risk!
