Was 3d printing and CNC milling made hard by purpose? ( conspiracy )

Does anybody else get the feeling that 3d printing and CNC milling have been made harder than it could have been? Just so that it won't be a every-mans item?

It is indeed very complicated systems. So is, for example, the Linux kernel. The Linux kernel perform incredibly complex tasks but it is user interfaced with a nice GUI.

The 3d printing and CNC milling machines are complicated things but could be so much simpler to interface with. I mean, I don't need to know how to write i86 assembly in order to browse the web! The process is made user friendly enough to allow me to use just a mouse and a keyboard.
