There is no such thing as city wide IP, maybe you don't have a public IP because you're behind a Carrier-Grade NAT, I don't think that's why you're getting the error. You probably logged into both accounts at some point with the same IP.

theoldones

I also have a city wide IP address. So it is not on my IP address.

wtf are you even talking about

Shitt1ngMys3lf

You only have 1 Internet routeable IP address through your ISP. Everything behind the router on your private network is using that IP address through network address translation. It's what allows you to have more than 1 device behind a router.

What’s a vote?

Use a VPN

I used to be an admin on an rpg and every player had two separate ID's, one being the IP address and the other being their "serial #" which was a number that was a hash of their windows username, or something like that. Me and other admins confirmed it by using a different windows account and itd show a different serial. Maybe voat uses something similar

fuspezza

Delete sys.Reg lol jk that will fuck up your screensaver

NoTrueScotsman

It's IP. Another member of my household has an account, and we run into this error all the time when we are both on the wifi. Separate accounts, different browsers, different devices.

Moreofthesame

The IP address use is for a city of a couple of million people. So, na not really

Gottmituns

Thats not how IP addresses work, at all.

NoTrueScotsman

How did you figure that out? I think you're mistaken, since IPs are generated for each device that connects to a network, such as a phone on 4g, or a home modem (so all devices connected through it share one IP).

GoyimNose

Do you seriously think a couple of million people all share the same ip address? Think really hard on it.

Moreofthesame

My IP address is city wide. It registers the same any way I check it.

Yes, in the "real world" governments are not going to let people hide themselves. But I have checked my IP and it is a city IP.

Tallest_Skil

Think for five seconds. Even if you know absolutely nothing about the structure of the Internet (and you clearly don’t), imagine the implications of this scenario you’ve crafted. If every computer in the city reports the same IP address, what does that mean for anonymity in that city? Let’s assume that someone has the OPSEC knowledge to prevent cookies from being saved or browser strings from being reported. What, then, could he do from any computer within the city? He could anonymously release any and all above top secret government documents and destroy the ZOG without worrying about being caught and killed. The government would be powerless to find him (again, assuming he hid his hardware profile). Similarly, anyone could post child porn anonymously, without end, and the only recourse would be to BAN THE ENTIRE CITY from the website(s) on which the CP was posted.

This isn’t how things work. Now, with the (ludicrously slow) adoption of IPv6, the implications of the new technology is that each device will have an IP address assigned to it permanently (since there will be enough IPs for all devices that will ever exist). That’s the opposite scenario to what I just described, but would have the same appearance as what you’re describing (which isn’t what is happening to you, so don’t get any ideas). It’s also the opposite of anonymity and will destroy it forever.

GoyimNose

lmao you must be a boomer

crazy_eyes

thats ridiculous

Neongreen

You're being tracked everywhere.

Moreofthesame

No shit Sherlock :-) iam in /v/Conspiracy and I am pointing out that Voat can see different accounts without me swapping between OSs

So Voat is tracking people other than by IP and cookies.

Neongreen

Of course they are. They got that sweet Jew money from PIA.

mehwah

1) Your wireless card or dongle has an ID number- allegedly cheep chinese ones all have the same serial nuber but who knows?

2)Your other hardware is serialized and may be ID'able... CPU and maybe Mother board

3) They bow have all kinda of sneeky tracking cookies- use a Live Distro on CD or a USB stick to lose all that every time- but PITA is you need to save downloaded files to a USB to keep

4)What is a city wide IP? AFAIK the IP is given to each device attached to the net is linked to the access point- each router will be individually 'placeble' AFAIK

4)Good on you for using Linux... if you want to be uber stealthy try Parot linux running live- it has up with one click app to anoymize (safe surf..? Something like that) and being live wont leave any tracking cookies on your PC

They can track you when you open a picture with token too and not all their trackers wil show up as cookies... Live CD and remmber yor psswords.. lol

WORF_MOTORBOATS_TROI

It's IP. You can use your phone connected to wifi to vote on something, log into a different screenname, switch your phone to the mobile data, and then vote on the same thing.

Moreofthesame

There are no cookies that I can see.

So you are telling me that Voat is dropping secret cookies on peoples computers?

My IP address is for a city, of over a million people.

Yes, I can use a live usb. I am just saying that somewhere Voat has a way of tracking users.

No. I noticed this a few days ago and as too busy to care. This AM i had a look. I can see no cookies and etc etc.

Am just saying that somewhere Voat is tracking people not using cookies. I am in /v/Conspiracy no?

mehwah

'...My IP address is for a city, of over a million people. ...'

NO it is not, the number is unique TO YOUR CONNECTED DEVICE

While if you search "whats my ip' they pinpoint it to an area EVERY device in the city has its own number, They just cant get your personal address witout talking to your Internet provider.

I know this to be the case but as a thought experiment how would the internet send the screen you just asked VOAT to show you (so u see this post) to YOUR computer and not to EVERYONE IN THE CITYs computer?

The internet is not Broadcast, its your PC asking the server to send it a page

geovoat

Please keep testing

Let us know what you find.

That sucks.

mehwah

If your worried use a Live CD of Tails... then only the Uber Feds at NSA will be able to track you.

Why anyone thinks that the internet isn't watching them by default I have no idea

MarauderShields

Although many do, site regulations say you are not allowed alts. I was surprised when I found out after seeing how prolific alts are.

Moreofthesame

Now. THIS is the point.

I have only just got back into Voat.

I was locked out for a long time.

I had a previous account and I posted an answer to Totesmagaot (or whatever) and he/she/it did not like my post so he told me he would down voat EVERYTHING I posted. I left Voat at -300 points. I dropped my account and stooped posting.

And then the lockout happened.
