They didn't get very far and all the technology (most of it) was as a direct result of technology given to this group of humans.

Human 'dollars' don't go very far in a wider galaxy that doesn't even use 'money.'

Humans are most productive when they connect thier information in a social way, 'secretive groups' never get anywhere.

Humans connecting information in an open source social way would exceed all this groups advances in about 12 months, maybe 2 years, we could jump 100s of 'years' in a few years.
