Has anyone ever played Plague?? The game

store.steampowered.com/app/246620/Plague_Inc_Evolved

In the game the ONLY way to win is to infect the entire world BEFORE your virus is lethal. Otherwise of the world detects your lethal virus then they shut everything down and find a cure. And you lose the game.

The low fatality of the coronavirus reminds me of this.

Oh, also in the game you pick your mutations. So you want to be ultra contagious and THEN mutate into a highly fatal virus. Cant help but wonder. This virus.... it would win that game..

bioweapons are designed to overwhelm infrastructure and disrupt the ability to function normally. if you were in a war with a country and could shut down their logistical functions by making everyone sick, would that not be useful? the intent isn't to kill people, it's to spread to as many as possible and disrupt. the only people dying are old sick boomers no one will miss.

Morbidity does much more damage that mortality. The dead don't continue to consume resources but the sick do.

the key is the long incubation period and extremely high contagiousness. this enables the disease to spread to basically everyone before it's even noticed that people are getting sick. the quarantines, shut downs, and disruptions we have seen are the intended result and it's working swimmingly.

We also get the lovely addition of imperiled food supply and a high chance of late cold spring.
