In other news from alternate worlds: Today I learned that MLK was shot with a rifle from a building across the street, rather than with a revolver from a man walking directly behind him. I also learned that I am not the only one who constantly writes "definately" when he tries to write "definitely".

Because nobody pronounces it the way it's spelled. Actually, our family pronounced it BERN-STEN. And that's they way they pronounce it in this cartoon: LINK

That just blew my mind! I always remembered it pronounced BerenstEin. Crazy stuff right there.

I read Berenstain Bears books to my kids in the '80s. And for several years, I worked in a library where I put Berenstain Bears books on the juvenile shelf in alphabetical order by authors' name. It is Berenstain now because it was Berenstain then. People remember it wrong. I do not know why.
