Soviet lunar program (zond-3) and the "tower of babel" -- where can i find the full frame set? ( conspiracy )

submitted 2015-08-07T04:48 by unixfreak

Zond-3 was a soviet lunar probe launched in 1965. It was (allegedly) originally destined for mars, but ended up only getting a fly by of the moon. As far as i can tell, from various sources, there are 25 photos of the far side of the moon. I want to find out which frame (the photo number / tag) contains this anomaly:

Hoping that somebody here knows more about it. It's dubbed "the shard", or "the tower of babel". The problem is most of the information i find through a web search is biased to the extremes on both sides, while only showing a cropped portion of the frame in their articles. Is the photo genuine? Whether artifact, geological anomaly or moon tower, i just want to find the actual image set with all of the frames from the fly by.

One source i read a while ago mentioned it is just an artifact due to "ink bleed" on the photo print. Due to the way the photos were received. Many tend to immediately jump to this as an explanation, the problem is -- i have been unable to find the actual photo set containing this frame of "the tower". Recently i've been looking into the "ink bleed" theory and trying to judge it for myself.

On the topic of "ink bleed", the NASA catalog states it's photos were transmitted by facsimile which as i understand is basically a fax print out received from the lunar probes transmissions, which makes sense how that could be an explanation. It's likely that several other frames from the set would share the same anomaly if it really is just "ink bleed".

The NASA catalog (linked above) has a link about data collections from the mission. Sadly, it seems you can only get print outs on hard copy ? Odd.

If anybody knows where the set of frames can be obtained, that would be great.
