Thats because their leaders--like many of the US leaders--are religious zealots. Their religion thinks they are gods chosen people. Just like the bible bangers--some of whom are in power--basically believe that the middle east has to burn for their prophecies. I am betting the general public in Israel is just as brainwashed in the US, and actually believe they are under constant threat. Just like most Americans are more scare of terrorists then police.
