I think it's 2 things. One is what you said...shills. There's a lot of unrest on Reddit, and they're probably establishing accounts in some of the places people will potentially migrate to en masse if things on Reddit get worse.

The other thing, IMHO, is just normal Reddit users. The ones who post in the major subs and are happy with the majority opinions that are usually voiced there.
