Garmin GPS units shit down in ransomware attack. Another test for the system? ( conspiracy )

Last week some techno-dudes managed to steal some bitcoin from rich people, and now GPS units don’t work right. It doesn’t sit well with me when the mapping satellites go out.

My wife mocks the piss out of me for my poor natural direction. In my area there are coil-bound off-road map books at the gas station for $10-20. Shows some of the back roads and restricted areas, and helps keep you off of private land and using bridges you didn’t know were there.

Strange. I had to visit a specialty shop (Map and Flag) to pick up a US atlas. Could not find physical maps anywhere else.

I used to get them from the AMA office. They have really good ones if you get each state separately. Lots of back roads. Of course, now that I have a generator and tools and such, I haven’t been to an AMA in years.

The last tire I changed was out in the middle of nowhere where phones don’t work, I used two jacks to hold the vehicle up on less-than-perfect footing, and a helpful dude stopped with his shotgun to guard for bears since I had my back to the woods. Good times!
