Stealing isn't quite the right term, but the concern is legitimate. It's the same reason the media is so influential in determining who is considered a legitimate candidate and who is a sideshow. It's all about controlling the flow of information.

Now, instead of simply being the major news networks controlling the information, it's google.

Personally, I trust google more than I trust the major networks, but that isn't saying much.

As if its a real election...

I don't think this is anything new with the digital age of the Internet. Media has been responsible for representing political options for a very long time.

edit This is kind of why it is a big deal only about 6 companies run all of the media in the US. In a similar way Google IS the main search engine - although there are other options.

I agree. Those I know who don't understand how Google search works believe that search results reveal truth. Even those who know news stations have bias will assume that search engines don't. I realize that's nothing more than ignorance, but who would educate them?

Not only are elections becoming more and more digital, but messaging and marketing are manipulating voters. If Google wants a certain candidate, what's to say they aren't changing search results to skew the voter's perception?
