Smart meters are required in Oregon. Just how smart are these meters that can do internet over power-lines? Can they remote control powered devices? As in over heating certain devices connected to power with a network connection? Or even just the grounding is needed? Which can be disconnected with ease.

If the homeowner could disconnect the smart meter could his home been saved? I'd bet my left nut it would have.
