Quite a few natural medicines and edibles would grow naturally if allowed...dandelions etc. I'd imagine that's the reason.

Lawns are actually a very recent phenomenon, mostly showing up in the 1930 and 40's. Look at some old pictures, "lawns" are uncut areas of grasses and weeds about a foot high. Prior to that time, sheep, goats and horses would graze on them and keep them "mowed". I have often wondered just how the craze started though,I imagine in the more urban areas where lawns and properties were small and easier to manage. Big estates too,but they required a staff of workers, so they were not so common. Out here in the boonies,its more of a fire control around the house than for lookin good.

My lawn is pretty... much an arrangement of dead weeds and some moss. And since I mowed down some flowers three years ago, my wife won't let me touch it. Too bad, while mowing the lawn I had time to listen to some excellent Nazi podcasts. Now I've got to wait for the snow blowing season...

people trying to copy rich people? some sort of social phenomenon? If you don't have your yard cut then the neighbors are going to start talking? omg why didn't they get cut their grass this week? and they even fine you in many cities for not cutting it. maybe completley brainwashed from birth?

think about how much money has been spent in the past couple hundred years of this lawn craze. thousands of dollars on a lawn mower and thousands on gas for millions of lawns just so you can cut down a grass? unless your some rich fucker it really makes zero sense.

They will fine you and put you in jail if you try to use your property to grow food instead of grass!
