Wish I could shill for a living. I gotta do it for free. ROFL j/k. Though it would be nice to make muh money on the internet.

I knew this was fake from the get go. But I'm sure there are real people like this though. Maybe if one of them sees this they'll give me a job.

This is so sad. I wanted to say I'm shocked, or surpised. I want to say I'm outraged. Yet I'm just beginning to feel so disengaged.

Bfwilley

Would that be the wages of sin or of the simple?

How can these people live with themselves? Going to work everyday to lie and deceive their brothers and sisters, getting paid shit nothing and actually interacting to other legitimate users. If there is a a hell it must exactly like this except these people go there everyday out of their own volition. Pure waste of life. I'd rather be washing shitty toilets than doing this because at least I'm helping someone with something that is real.

It really doesn't matter though. The point of a site like this is that the user base can downvote this shit to oblivion. A smaller site like Voat is more vulnerable to this sort of thing but even then all it takes is for people to notice and fight against it. It's not like traditional media where people can just decide what you will see, as Voat says here you can have your say ! It can be frustrating and we won't win all the time but we should do what we must because we can.

If all of this is new to you go back to your front page. Do you really care that much about this v/AskVoat bullshit? About police brutality? Sure, maybe you do but the way our front-page looks like it would seem to be a matter of national security. Don't be fooled, this is content manipulation and if you open your eyes you'll see it clear as day.

Remember people: your downvoat is there for a reason, use it wisely. Here is what I think is a shill, just look how afraid they are that you might start using it. There was even a front-page post the other day asking for downvoats to be removed entirely. It's our biggest weapon against them!

EDIT: Shill deleted it's comments. When I wrote this post the comments were definitely there. 100% sure it was a shill now.

When you're broke and can't find a decent job right away you'll do many things for money that you don't agree with. Retail, fast food, and online bullshit. Not defending it but that may be the reason they do it.

omegletrollz

You know man I see where you're coming from but it seems to me that if you get to this point then you've made a lot of wrong choices along the way. And you're gonna go ahead by making another wrong choice? Isn't it time to change "your" life? As I said, I'd rather clean toilets, even if the pay is worse.

Of course, maybe 10% of people got to that point for no fault of their own, and I absolutely don't mean to offend them. But I'm willing to bet the other 90% of people there had other options to choose from.

I think the type of person that would take those jobs see themselves as above the blue collar and other 'lowly' jobs. Doing the paid commenting is easy, I don't know the pay, and it's not seen as beneath them most likely. They probably won't take a look at their own life enough to make that change or don't see the problem with manipulating online conversations. They could also be true believers as well. Hard to know and how most of these people operate we may never find out.

Lol... The funny thing is that other commenter could very easily be the Reddit PR puppet.

Dysnomia

Bigbowlowrong has been on my list of shills for months. One look at the user history and if they're not a shill, they're either a troll or a knave.

AlmightySonOfBob

bigbowlowrong is one of my users from when I modded /r/TopMindsOfReddit . He's no shill. Just one of my people. LOL.

Dysnomia

Shill, troll, knave, whatever.

Is it more or less acceptable if you don't get paid?

In case that post disappears...

"I might get in trouble for saying this, but I’m about to get a better job anyway. I think people should know who they’re talking to.

Ever reply to one of those “work online” ads? Sometimes, PR companies hire young, cheap workers like me to create a false sense of consensus online. It’s called stealth marketing, but to me it’s just lying. I’ve been paid to do it here and in the comments section of a certain women’s news site.

Basically, I go to a small office six hours a day, working under the hour limit to qualify for full time. There are about twenty of us here on an average day, different people every day. They keep everyone rotating and hire extra people so nobody’s getting 40 hours.

Some of us aren’t even marketing for the same client, but we all work for the same PR firm. Did I say work for? We are all "temps" (sure).

I browse comments sections searching for mentions of our politician. They give us a script. If commenter mentions A, we mention B. If a commenter mentions “random negative thing x,” we respond with a vague counterpoint, like calling our candidate “authentic” or saying “look at his record” without specifying.

There’s even a script for when the other commenter is winning the argument. We’re told specifically to derail the discussion, throw mud, and in the end, accuse the commenter of being a conspiracy theorist/tinfoil hat wearer. That way, anyone reading the discussion will see those negative points as being associated with weird people.

I got into a discussion today with someone from an opposing politician’s team, I think. I was using my script, and I think he was using a script, too. Answers from a can. It felt weird to have a futile discussion between liars. I wonder what that person really believes?

Anyway, I just thought people should know not to take the political things they read on here too seriously. If you want to have a genuine discussion about that, keep it in person or on facebook where you know the people you’re talking to. If you’re doing it on an anonymous forum, you’re probably being marketed to."

Of course it disappeared :)
