I think he probably had it months ago. It's absolutely a national security matter and it's absurd to think the US President should announce such a thing unless he's in the hospital and incapacitated. Once that was done, he planned to run an op on it for the campaign, which we just saw.

His recovery time is in line with what I remember hearing from other therapeutics, plus he is generally in remarkably good health for his age. I think it's totally plausible that he really had it and recovered that quickly.

it was a smart move on his part on a number of levels. you can say a lot about trump but he's not dumb and has great timing.

it distanced him from the White supremacy question. It also as you said allows him to show that covid is no big deal and he knows how to beat it and makes him look strong/ has a case for opening things back up again.
