California PD: "Welp, looks like the public is aware that they are legally permitted to film us."

Cops: "OH FUCK WHAT DO WE DO!?!"

California PD: "We watch them too, 24/7."

Cops: "But boss we already do that!"

California PD: "Well then, let's make a database of faces and DNA and start cataloging every cattl civilian we interact with."

Rookie: "But boss, isn't that illegal? What about the FOIA?"

- all laugh -

"Not my problem, the next generation can fix it."

jacob7395

I don't see the difference between this and someone watching you though the camera.

escapefromredditbay

a cameras just video. bio-metrics are everything else .

jacob7395

Bio-metric cameras are just camares conected to a computer to replase the laber requird to search for people with securety cameras. The cameras remain the same a computer just analizes the information.

Scotcheggs

They use them in my country to profile know criminals and disrupt their activity. Also use them when entering the country. It's pretty effective here anyways.

jacob7395

Exactly they use them to catch bad guys, yes they can be abused by the authorities but I don't like bad guys being on the streets.

escapefromredditbay

facial recognition.

palmprint.

iris scan.

voice recognition.

fingerprint.

DNA.

"emerging biometrics".

source: http://www.thedailysheeple.com/fbi-dedicates-new-360000-sq-ft-biometric-technology-center-in-west-virginia_082015

and in any case, your just gonna brush off them getting larger capabilities for watching you?

jacob7395

Yes that's what biometrics are, however a biometric camera/ biometric surveillance does not do all of that. A camera will use facial recognition and maybe voice analysing but the unreliability of voice analization would probably prevent that. So all the video from cameras is fed to a powerful computer and then used to find a person with there face. The exact same thing done by police and federal agencies to find murders and rapist. The main difference being the speed at which it analyzes the data, providing an almost instant response.

I don't know about you but if there was a mass murdering lunatic on the loose in my neighborhood I would like the authorities to find him now not later.

Yes this can be abused like anything can be abused but in the end along as you aren't planning to get rob a bank, why care?

note they already watch us where just not important enough for them to care about.

well, lets look at their track record.

Great post.

jacob7395

The government did all of this anyway they just spend a lot of manpower in the process. You haven't looked at all the good it can do, things impossible for humans to do.

Pickpockets at the superbowl http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/story?id=98871

Thats one example i'm sure there are a lot more but I don't have the time to look for them sorry.

You are completely correct in saying governments will be watching us with it but they do that all the time anyway. The benefits it provides for catching crimines way out ways the risk.

escapefromredditbay

oh.

benefits like what? and i will be fact-verifying, do remember.

no vagueness, and it has to be restricted to just the US because otherwise we'd be dealing with global benefits instead.
