WOW. This is...groundbreaking. I heard about the Merck lawsuit but was ill-informed.

As I said, I interned for a HUGE pharma company. On my first day, I was in a tour group led by two senior scientists. After seeing the automated testing facilities, in which HUNDREDS of samples of ?? are tested every hour by a robotic machine that picks from racks of hundreds of thousands of vials full of un-named substances ID'ed only by code number, I said something like, "Wow...the cure for AIDS and cancer could be right in there, huh?"

The two scientists laughed uproariously. "Kid, you'd better learn something if you want to work in this business! There is no money in "cures," hahaha!!! The money is in maintenance --and if your project doesn't make money over and over--and quickly, we don't want anything to do with it! You know how much it costs to file an NDA with the feds (the FDA)??"

Needless to say, I got the fuck out of psychopharmacology, opting instead for ochem/EE. Never regretted it a day in my life and I'll ALWAYS remember what that scientist said so flippantly.

Big Pharma has NO interest whatsoever in your well-being. They care only about the bottom line...and helping you a little bit...but only just enough so that you have to buy their products for the rest of your life (in most cases).

Yep, that's for sure. It's interesting seeing WHY the whole "airborne Ebola" scare came about. I wonder if it was ever airborne at all--as docs from Medecins Sans Frontieres seem to believe that it was NOT.

So this is it, then. This is why Reddit was swamped with vax stuff. This is why Obama danced like a puppy when big pharma told him to.

It's really quite interesting watching all this go down. A bit sad, too.
