Speech nuts, like gun nuts, have amassed plenty of arguments, but they—we—are driven, too, by a shared sensibility that can seem irrational by European standards.

Just a complaint, this bothers me. Why do we, as Americans, always feel the need to compare ourselves to European standards? I get that European countries are considered to be some of the leaders of the first world and be some of the most "progressive" nations (which is apparently a good thing), but this is not Europe. A lot of our problems and issues differ from those of European countries. Why do the general media feel the need to constantly say we need to conform to European standards rather than go our own way, if not only to push an agenda? It grinds my gears.

Then again, this is coming from people who are shaming "speech nuts".
