I'd also say that real black herrings always have something they distract FROM. In the case of the Flat Earth Theory, there are several NASA projects which show obvious signs of fraud, and the Flat Earthers divert people from "They're just stealing money" to "They're covering up some big dark secret"

It's like Aliens... Aliens are a great way to distract someone who finds out that there are tens of thousands of UFO sightings. IMHO, they are simply military black budget craft, and the Alien line of reasoning distracts from the more mundane and less interesting, "We stole these propulsion ideas from the Germans... who mainly derived them from Maxwell and Tesla."

Flat Earth is a black herring.

It is chosen because it is universally associated with gullibility and a ancient beliefs. If it can be portrayed to an outsider as a major meme in the real community, it makes us all look stupid.

As a bonus, of the dozen or so good proofs for a round Earth, more than half rely on a fairly deep understanding of geometry to be convincing... and people suck at geometry.

I think the big prize is to convince some real earnest researchers that these flat Earthers are authentic. Very few are, imho. It's mostly just a big black herring.

Honestly you're only going to get people spatting at you from both sides with nonsense so the only thing you can do is go through the information yourself.

the tl;dr of it all as far as I can figure out is that we never made it to the moon and everything we been taught through the general education system is bullshit. Think about all the things you learned through school, what is the only idea that was open mocked during study? Flat Earth. Bit weird isn't it?

Really just dig into it yourself with an open mind and figure it out for yourself. How concrete is the sphere earth model to you? Do you know because you know or because somebody told you?
