Gay guy here. Would not mind mothballing that stupid flag. It's becoming increasingly divicive.

wafflesid

That you see those as one and the same is laughable.

wafflesid

Hahahaha oh please.

un1ty

We have to have a pumpkin festival or something first... /s

Bfwilley

"Ban it!, let's burn it and stomp it. Grind it in to the ground." At least that's what the SJW manual on flags says.

Wrong Subverse...

The Divide and Conquer tactics is somewhat related to this sub, but ever since they reopened registration this sub is putting up with more and more garbage posts like this.

What discussion does this have? Please avoid posting this crap, take it to v/news if you feel like it needs to be shared.

wafflesid

Because the gay flag isn't displayed on public government buildings.

Fly your fucking confederate flag all you want, just not on government buildings.

Jesus. Wtf is wrong with you people.

Sadistic_Bastard

Maybe it's because the confederate flag was flown over millions of deaths and a system of oppression, while the LGBT flag has only been linked to two so far. I don't agree any flag should be banned, but this line of logic is just retarded.

un1ty

was flown over millions of deaths and a system of oppression,

Thats why I fly Old Glory HIGH AND PROUD!

(How many people do you think, cumulatively, have been rendered dirt thanks to American policy, foreign and domestic? Millions? Billions? Logic fail.)

magic3383

confederate flag was responisible

Are you saying that a flag was responsible for something?

Sadistic_Bastard

Ah fuck, my bad. I meant it was used in the name of opression, war, etc. Not that a flag singlehandendly did all those thing.

SumerBreeze

Remember that the North also had slavery - the confederate flag and the union jack could both equally represent slavery, even though neither really do.

Sadistic_Bastard

Oh absolutely, every flag has it's history of disgust.

voiceofflawedlogic

I'll help you with the logic. Banning the confederate flag was a knee-jerk reaction to an event. It wasn't like "well shit, the death count just rolled over the acceptable limit, let's ban the flag". Pull your head out of your ass and realize this to be a bit of political satire about the reaction to the confederate flag and a hate crime.

x2501x

1) The flag has not been banned. Removing it from a couple government sites is not "banning" it. 2) The removal in SC was not a "knee jerk" reaction to anything. It was something that people had been pushing to have done for decades , and the outrage in the aftermath of the Dylan Root murders was simply the very last tipping point that moved the needle of public opinion the last 1/10 of a percent over the line to where lawmakers who had been opposed to the flag being flown over their capital finally felt they could take it down.

Sadistic_Bastard

Are you sure this is satire? Because this is infowars we're talking about.

voiceofflawedlogic

oh snap. Might just be outright lunacy then. Funny thing about satire...

Sadistic_Bastard

Yep, Poe's Law in full effect.

toobaditworks

Maybe it's because the confederate flag was responisible for millions of deaths and a system of oppression, while the LGBT flag has only been linked to two so far. I

Actually the LGBT flag is linked to the killing of millions of people around the world. Aids. They knew the spread of aids was within the gay community. It was no secret. Yet they kept on spreading aids and killing millions of people including children thousands who still get aids today because of their actions. All because they wanted to fuck each other in the butt. The logic is sound.

Frankenmime

So let me get this straight. You are equating a disease with violent hate crimes? And you do realize that no one knows the origin of the disease right?

You do realize that the HIV virus affects straight people as well right? You also realize that unprotected sex is what caused HIV to spread like wildfire? You are also aware that the Catholic Church has had an ongoing anti prophylactic campaign for decades right?

I'm not for the banning of the confederate flag. I just don't think your argument makes much sense.

toobaditworks

You do realize that the HIV virus affects straight people as well right?

55% of people who get HIV were gay. There's a CDC pdf out there about it. But I'll just post this here: http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/basics/transmission.html Look at the bottom question: "Is the risk of HIV different for different people?"

) In the same way, because the prevalence of HIV is higher among gay and bisexual men and among black and Latino men and women, members of these groups are more likely to encounter partners who are living with HIV.

Gay people are a very small minority of people. They represent 1% of the population in America. So 55% of HIV infected people being gay means a great deal.

And you do realize that no one knows the origin of the disease right?

Wrong. CDC reports:

Scientists identified a type of chimpanzee in West Africa as the source of HIV infection in humans. They believe that the chimpanzee version of the immunodeficiency virus (called simian immunodeficiency virus, or SIV) most likely was transmitted to humans and mutated into HIV when humans hunted these chimpanzees for meat and came into contact with their infected blood. Studies show that HIV may have jumped from apes to humans as far back as the late 1800s. Over decades, the virus slowly spread across Africa and later into other parts of the world. We know that the virus has existed in the United States since at least the mid- to late 1970s.

source CDC "where did HIV come from" : http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/basics/whatishiv.html

Frankenmime

You are still equating a disease with a hate crime.

I believe the source of the HIV virus was not as cut and dry as some believe. Even in the excerpt you provided it clearly states that scientist believe that the virus jumped the species barrier. I'm not convinced this happened. But even if I'm wrong, and I could very well be, you are equating a disease with all out murder. The gay pride flag doesn't represent murder, enslavement, tearing families apart and so on.

Look, I don't agree with the banning of the flag. I think it was stupid. But you cannot deny that the symbol, whether rightfully so or not, has come to represent a horrible point in the history of the United States of America.

The LGBTQ flag is not tied to any hatred, or murders.

Edit: By the way, thank you for the links! I'll make sure I read that CDC article soon. Perhaps I am wrong about the certainty of the origins of HIV. Always an opportunity to learn. Thanks.

Edit 2: sorry, just read the link you provided from the CDC. I remain unconvinced that we know exactly where HIV came from. I believe scientists can only speculate at the moment. Perhaps there is a good chance that HIV came from SIV. But that article did not seem to be convincing. Nor did it provide any evidence.

toobaditworks

I think it was stupid. But you cannot deny that the symbol, whether rightfully so or not, has come to represent a horrible point in the history of the United States of America.

I can deny it. It actually represents southern pride. Being proud to be southerner with southern values. It does not represent slavery. I'm not a southerner and don't own that flag and never had. But I still know what it represents. Only people who think it represents slavery is a bunch of revenge seeking idiots who live in the past and are racists themselves.

The LGBTQ flag is not tied to any hatred, or murders.

It is now.

Sadistic_Bastard

Pretty much exactly what I was going to say, but the Catholic anti-protection thing was a nice caveat. And also, AIDS is so rampant in Southern Africa due to heterosexual interactions (in correlation with a witch-doctor remedy saying you have to rape a virgin girl to cure it). Also, not even gonna mention needles and blood transfusions?
