Excellent article

Truth is, anyone who is gravely concerned with security needs to throw out their laptop/PC every day and start fresh with a new one with read only media used to boot it. In addition any network gear or device connected to the internet needs to be replaced just as frequently.

Virtual private networks, TOR, proxies and compromised hosts must be used to try to hide your real IP Address, even then it should be an address not even remotely associated with you because people like the NSA with the smartest kids from college and unlimited money, will eventually find you.

Everything is vulnerable in one way or another so the concept of "trust" has shifted. What was once a "unrealistic pipe dream" in the security world a decade ago, is our reality today.

That is an extremely well written article.

Bruce Schneier is an extremely well respected and accomplished member of the IT security and crypto community, his site and books are extremely well written and worthy of your time.

Man, no lie, some weird shit happened after I clicked on one of the links in that article and came back to post here. See my comment above.

Any details? I can likely figure it out for you

So, I clicked on one of the links, but not the one the article says not to click. The one for the screenshots shown on brazillian TV. After finishing the article, I came back here to comment on how well-written it was. Immediately after hitting submit, something happened in my browser. I had another tab open in which I was logged into a popular online service - one of the type that you stay logged into and generally don't have to fuss with. I don't really want to name it. So what happened was, I got kicked out of that service (never, ever happened to me before) and at the same time I was sent an email.

The email looked like it was from that service, but it had a message of "hey, you forgot to set a password. click here to do create one now." I deleted that shit without touching it.

Now, when I try to log into Gmail, it doesn't take me to the traditional view. It keeps be in the "Inbox" view and even when I click the link to switch back, it won't let me do so.

Any ideas?

Have you tried turning your computer off and on?

Drenki

I pressed the button, but it didn't go.

Whoa, after reading and posting, I immediately got kicked out of one of the online services I use. Guess I'm being targeted now.

Hi NSA!

HoneyNutStallmans

What you can take away is that the NSA does more than collecting... it actually tries to infect computers like yours and mine.
