Im so glad this sub is not banned from r/all like it was on plebbit

So it appears that a county initiative passed with 73% "Yes" to ban red light cameras in this county. Officials from two small towns in that county are against this, almost certainly because their towns are where people drive-through and they make a mint off of the rest of the county's drivers with their cameras. Or possibly because the citizens of those small towns just really believe that these cameras do something good.

Whatever the reasoning these towns are trying to block the initiative by saying that the county does not have the right to pass such a statute that takes precedence over the municipalities within that county. Each state is different but I suspect they are very much correct. An incorporated city within a county should not be bound by this regulation, but the county does have authority in this regard over all unincorporated areas.

I hope this gets much more press because once people realize the CAN ban these cameras in any way they surely will.
