They've already done the thing where, supposedly, math skills are improved by applying a mild current to one lobe.

Imagine if you didn't need a current, but could do so only with magnetic or electromagnetic fields. And you had thousands and thousands of such inputs. You could probably influence synaptic connections. Done without finesse, you wouldnonly cause confusion in the subject. But if you used a detailed map of the brain and some trial and error, the result would be truly terrifying.
