It is interesting with both actualities - they confiscated phones which is, so far at least, unprecedented in these scenarios. I've read somewhere on this that this was to "prevent an insider letting another insider know what was happening, in case there were multiple attackers."

But my gut tells me that this was to prevent any escape of data that can not be validated, handled, or authorized from being leaked, Why? Because I have an apparent lack of trust in the state apparatus.

You don't have to buy anything. That's what happened. Why didn't this happen or why didn't that happen, I don't know. Maybe you should ask the students who's phone got taken away. Maybe you should ask the police. I don't care what you buy or believe.

Because they confiscated all the students phones. And then they patted down the students to make sure that no one was hiding anything else. I would think that they could be sued for that
