I really relate to this. I hate Islam. Why? Because Muhammad was a pedophile and genocidal maniac, wtf do I need to explain about that? I used to be liberal, but now that liberals are demanding "respect" and "safe space" for the pedophile prophet, I am switching sides.

opinions change. people grow. i grew up in a conservative and religious home, so thats pretty much all i really understand. but i think people like you are important. popular opinion is a pendulum, and whenever it gets too far one side, people like you have to keep it in check by pulling it back towards the middle.

I have tried, but that line of thinking doesn't make sense to me. For instance: abortion. I'm open to thinking it should be a choice, but should I accidentally impregnate my girlfriend, I couldn't bring myself to convince her to abort and I'd probably be against her deciding to do that to what would be half my kid. It's not that I'm limiting myself in what I think, it's that I was brought up under one set of beliefs and that sort of thing makes sense to me

I'm not selling anything, just encouraging you not be encumbered by your parents belief systems. Being born into a belief system should have no bearing on your ability to critically evaluate things for yourself thats all I'm saying. And for the record the way you stated your stance on abortion sounds like you're pro-choice but would personally choose not to (although I'm fairly certain even with half of our baby ingredients us males really don't get a choice in the matter). Theres really not conflict there. I believe that all drugs should be decriminalized, that doesn't mean that I want to do all drugs.

i dont think its being pro-choice, its minding my own business. i personally am not pro-choice, i consider myself to be pro-life. i practice christianity, but i allow other people to practice other religions without jihadding the shit out of them. im still a christian the same way im pro-life. and, really, your encouragement is appreciated but irrelevant. you're acting like im held captive by what my parents believe. im not, i find my parents to be very smart and the way they look at the world makes a lot of sense to me. ive held friends who have leaned in different directions, but my worldviews and my perception only really makes sense the way i was taught growing up. im happy that way

If you believe what your parents believe then tell me what you believe not that "thats how I was raised bull shit" thats a mentally lazy excuse to explain your values. I'm saying I doubt you blindly believe what your parents taught, you evaluated things on your own and came to your conclusions at some point in life. If you just believe what your parents believe because thats how you were raised then thats fucking stupid.

You don't have to get angry about it. youre right, I did evaluate things on my own. Like I said in my previous comments, I had many friends who leaned in different directions. But as I grew older I realized that siding with them was just lying to myself. It also seemed to me (take note of that before you get upset) that being a liberal was taking a very easy way out of important issues. It's so easy to subscribe to the "everybody is important. Everybody should be equal in society. Everybody should be on the same level" line of thought. You're accused of being a bigot when you think that people should not be equal in society because certain people bring more worth to society than others. A select few actually suck resources out of society, and I think that's wrong despite how good it feels saying everyone matters

You know there aren't just two sides, right? I'm not demanding respect, I think SJWs are cancer, and I don't like Islam any more than I do Christianity or Judaism. I'm also pro-2nd amendment. This fits neither the conservative ideology nor the liberal one completely.

Instead of picking a side that doesn't suit you, be your own side.
