Wow, let me see if I can name all the proxy wars going on in the middle east off the top of my head before I go to sleep:

  • Syria - Russia & Assad vs. US, Israel, & "moderate" militant groups
  • Yemen - Iran & Houthis vs. Saudi Arabia & US
  • Iraq - Iran & PPk vs. Turkey vs. the Kurds vs. ISIS (which is apparently easier to defeat than previously claimed)
  • Afghanistan - US vs. the Taliban, China, & Russia

Also of note:

  • Ukraine - Russia & leftist separatist vs. US, EU, & right wing nationalists.

Potential conflicts on the horizon that may become proxy power struggles:

  • Turkey - dictatorship masquerading as a democracy. Geographically important for global powers. Collapsing currency & economy. Deep political corruption.
  • Brazil - America's neighbor, but Russia's ally. Collapsing currency & economy. Deeply rooted political corruption. Armed gangs/militant groups.
  • Pakistan - has nukes. Collapsing currency. Deep political corruption. Armed militants out the ayo.
  • Malaysia - deep political corruption. Collapsing currency. Just signed TPP, pledging economic alligence to the US, China would like to see a new gov in place.
