In my opinion, AI solves almost all of our problems and also creates some new ones along the way. Imagine all of our political and economic problems solved on the county or town level, an AI could micro manage all of that and deliver the best objective outcome for all. If the AI achieved true self awareness it might be the next evolution of life in this universe. If humanity dies we deserve it and we did it to ourselves either through direct action or apathy.

For a smart guy, you think he'd know the difference between capitalism and corporatism, and why it's the latter that's the actual problem.

Extreme specialists in any field like physics, acting, sports, or engineering tend to be wildly ignorant of economics.

In the past Universities were just that, places where one could obtain a Universal education consisting of the Trivium and Quadrivium.

Today they are specialist trade schools, turning out mind-crippled worker-bots. Diplomas guarantee the graduate possesses the mental and social discipline to obey corporate orders, and not think too much about larger issues.

smart doesn't equal knowledge, I'm sure he would say he had the definition of the latter in mind.

I'm assuming you meant this as "check out this element of a socialist plot"? That's the general understanding I get from the packaging of the article. Hawking's actual statement was a bit more... nebulous and short-sighted. I'm not sure what good it does advising fear (damn near literal fear mongering).

I personally am afraid of being trapped in a chair with a robot voice that claims to represent my blinks and twitches but is actually a rogue socialist AI.
