Wouldn't you be capped at .999999999999~c no matter how hard you try?

Effectively making the trip at a minimum 1500 years no matter how you look at it?

As far as Ive found out this star is too old to have that kind of loose material all over the place. If its actually asteroids then something must have caused them to appear at some point in the (cosmically speaking) not so far past, so even if its not made by intelligent life, it would still be interesting to find out what kind of phenomenon has caused this "swarm".

This is what @RayLomas wrote yesterday when this topic was posted on /v/worldnews . Not my work so all credit to him.

I'll x-post a part of my comment from v/space , as the article here is a bit clickbaity

A more objective article on that topic: http://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2015/10/the-most ->interesting-star-in-our-galaxy/410023/

Original study: http://arxiv.org/pdf/1509.03622v1.pdf

KIC 8462852 star is located 1500 LY from us - it pretty much excludes all means of communication, and travel >between earth and that system is completely out of the question, even with best hypothetical technology (for >example Alpha Centauri system is kinda-doable, with nuclear propulsion and 80 years-long mission).

The star itself is an F3 main sequence star - slightly larger and brighter than sun. Unfortunately, such >stars emit more UV, and live shorter than G stars (our sun), which makes it a less likely spot for >intelligent life to arise.

The structure hypothetically may be a Dyson Swarm rather than Dyson Sphere. Dyson Swarms would be much easier >to build, while still capturing a ton of energy from the star. Dyson Sphere has 2 main issues - 1) it >requires ridiculous amounts of materials to build; 2) it requires active propulsion, to avoid falling into >star, since unlike any amount orbiting satellites, its position around star isn't stable.

Its really only a matter of time until our true history becomes public again, humanity realizes the illusion we've been living thanks to information control via religious and state entities, and move to change everything.

It will take generations of humans to get to a point of peace as there will be inevitable resistance to a fundamental change in our current paradigm. It is very past due though.

Weellll... This particular star is about 1500 Lightyears away from earth. Illusion yes or no, I dont think that there is a technical possibility that any human government could know about this and have a reason not to tell the public, as this would mean that they have some actual interest in it, which is fairly unlikely given that they cant get there.

The technology to easily get there, which someone would need to have any interest there, is beyond all imagination, and it would be even more difficult to then hide this technology from everyone.
