Okay, so this article is hosted on a site seriously called 'naturalnews', so the article itself is built to be biased in favor of natural food intake. This supposed disorder is not recognized by either the APA or DSM as a diagnosis, so it is not considered to 'exist' by the very large majority of psychologists. Given the rate of DSM updates, even if this condition exploded in the next 10 years it would likely take that long to be considered a classifiable disorder.

It seems there has only been a few studies on the condition, and where it has been done it is an offshoot of OCD behaviors, where a person bases their identity and all of their mental energies on eating what they consider healthy. A stated defining characteristic of this disorder over those that simply don't want to eat more processed food types is that they are unable to take part in everyday activities, isolate themselves, and become intolerant of the views of others.

This is a typical diagnostic criteria for nearly every disorder, where a person has a problem when it interferes with their ability to live a typical life. Since we don't know what being 'truely healthy' in the mind is, we define it as deviance from most of society. It's the best criteria we have.

This isn't a new disorder. This is something a few authors have put out a few papers on, meaning they had 1-2 interesting clients and decided to make an article on the subject.

OWNtheNWO

The DSM is a bunch of sophistic nonsense from a 'soft' science.

smokratez

That is fucking insane. They seriously want to label all the people who don't act like good little sheep as mental cases.
